Effective Writing Instruction

Do your students feel frustrated or give up easily when writing?

My strategies help build student motivation and enthusiasm  by making writing feel accessible, engaging and purposeful. When lessons are clear, active and student-centered, even reluctant writers find their voice. By honoring what students know and tapping into students’ strengths, we can create a classroom where all writers can grow with confidence.

Do you use strategies that spark attention and keep writers engaged?

Today’s learners need writing instruction that is meaningful and relevant. Through teacher modeling and high-engagement techniques, I share practical methods to re-energize your writing instruction. When students see writing connected to their experiences and perspectives, their interest and their effort skyrockets.

Can your writing lessons become more relevant and easier to understand?

Students shut down they’re confused about what to write or how to begin. I provide simple, time-efficient strategies that make writing tasks clear and approachable, even on a tight schedule. When students understand expectations and have a clear picture of what strong writing looks like, they stay engaged longer and produce stronger writing.

Do you want students to feel more connected to what they write?

When students link writing to their own experiences, backgrounds, and interests, “aha!” moments multiply. I shoe teachers how to use student voice, choice and strengths to reduce resistance and improve outcomes. These techniques help writers of all levels take ownership of their work and take pride in what they create.

Can we build real writing confidence and test readiness?

Students can learn to write well under pressure – but only if they’re taught how. My approach builds self-efficacy by giving students structured support, productive struggle and clear strategies for timed writing and writing to a prompt in state and national tests. When students understand how they learn and have tools to manage writing stress, they perform better on assessments and feel more confident overall.

Can we support writing instruction beyond the ELA classroom?

Writing belongs in every classroom, and I work closely with K-12 teachers in all content areas – including science, social studies, math, CTE, health, PE and the arts – to weave meaningful, manageable writing into their daily instruction. I help teachers use writing as a tool for thinking, processing and demonstrating understanding, without adding extra workload or complicated routines.

If your school could choose just one training this year - make it this one!

This training helps raise achievement, reduce behavior issues, and strengthen classroom relationships. Teachers leave energized and equipped with ready-to-use strategies that capture attention, build connection and elevate learning.
